In this post I'm going to review Sony HDR-CX290 provided by Sony.

Comes with everything it says, work like it says, look like it says, but the menu is annoying. everytime I Tried to silence it, spend like 4-5 minutes finding the MUTE option. No shortcuts; no external buttons to it.

About the functionality, it works fine with awesome video quality. The issue is to learn how to control the ZOOM. it moves to slow at he beggining and then too fast. Watching my first video-trip was a throwing up experience. Now I know that I have to use this camera more static than my previous one; is more sensitive, as is hand-sized and weights like a credit card. If you have shaking hands, you need a heavier device.

Today I want to take a look at Sony HDR-CX380 provided by Sony.

Camera took great video and had very good low light performance. When compared to an equivalent model from a competing brand, it had better low light abilities but the colors were not quite as vibrant. I sent it back for a refund due to the fact that it does not have the correct setting I need to use it with my Solvid CamStrap Head Camera Mount. Otherwise it would have been worth keeping.

Many improvements over the last Sony Handycam I bought several years ago. It is a little frustrating that you cannot set up the camera and leave the LCD open while the camera is off (opening the LCD screen automatically turns the camera on). I liked to set up my camera and then come back, turn the camera on and hit record, but that is a minor inconvenience. The memory card is easily accessible. The USB cable is awkward to use, but there are easy ways to avoid having to use it. I recommend that you get a separate card reader to use with the memory card as opposed to trying to connect via the USB cable to download images and videos. Otherwise, I like how well it zooms, the sharp images, and small size.

Sony LCSU5 Soft Carrying Case for Camcorder review and best price

Super lightweight, simple case. As others have noted, it won't fit much else other than your camera (I have a Sony HDRPJ260V which it fits perfectly) and a couple cards, but that's the draw for this particular case and also the reason it's so reasonably priced. You won't do better for the price. As long as your expectations are tempered a bit, you will love it. It was easy to set up. The built in usb cable is a great design choice. It's light weight but doesn't feel cheaply made. I've used it with both my mac and my pc. The menus are a bit counter intuitive, but I had it figured out within 20 minutes. Shoots action well. It also shoots in mp4, which makes it super easy to edit the videos on a mac or a pc. I've also been very pleased with the battery life. It also fits really nicely in my hand. Camera is chock full of settings with all the trimmings/bells and whistles. digital leveling display tells you when your camera is leveled both horizontally and vertically, hdr settings, "commonly used" options quickly accessed via info screen etc etc.

I toyed very little with the video capability of the camera - but from my tinkering and quick records the video was smooth and looked really good.
